Japanese guitarist Taku Sugimoto has been on the forefront of the international improvisation scene for the last few years, releasing several records solo and in collaboration with people such as Keith Rowe, Kevin Drumm and Annette Krebs. This new release is the first outing for his longstanding Guitar Quartet which also includes Tetuzi Akiyama, Yoshihide Otomo and Toshimaru Nakamura on acoustic and electric guitars. It has taken some time before a recording of this unique quartet got released because the live concerts have always been so constrained and quiet that recording it was too hard. This CD features two lengthy tracks recorded live in Japan in 2002 which show an even more refined and delicate playing from these 4 improv masters.
