Title Description: "Insula Dulcamara" features a series of live and studio improvisations that we were progressively transformed and shifted over two years. Small snapshots captured during vacations in the north of Portugal, travelling notes, reverberating spaces, particular gestures embroided in and against very different materials. The sounds move quietly through the fragmented landscapes of field recordings and the transforming electronic processes create a highly evershifting but detailed sonic flow. Ê Paulo Raposo is a sound + media artist based in lisbon, Portugal. Despite having studied cinema and philosophy, he has been working in the medium of live electronic and computer sound since the early nineties, performing, exhibiting installation works and recording in France, Germany, UK, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal and United States. His work has largely been concerned with the displacement of various sound sources as objects, acoustic instruments or architectural spaces, using computer and custom-built software, written in max/msp, to create abstract and organic landscapes. Since the late nineties, he started exploring intersections between sound and image taking advantage of the digital medium real-time possibilities, both in solo performances and collaborative work, specially along with Jeremy Bernstein. He has always been interested in improvised music, having performed with several artists and groups, including Jason Kahn, Kaffe Mathews, Marc Behrens,Zbigniew Karkowski, Matt Rogalski, Carlos Z’ngaro, Christopher Murphy, Manuel Mota, Harold Baush, Matt Rogalski, Ben Manley, Koji Asano. The project 'vitriol' with Carlos Santos is an ongoing performing and recording collaboration with Carlos Santos that started 15 years ago.
Other recently released (and upcoming) works include "floating points" (Grainofsound), "Further Consequences of Reinterpretation" with Marc Behrens and "Humus" with Carlos Z’ngaro.
Carlos Santos (n. 1967, Lisboa, Portugal) Studied painting and works as a graphic designer. In 1990 started his activity in music/sound performance when with Paulo Raposo forms the project Vitriol. He presents himself live with some improvisors, just to name a few: Ulrich Mitzlaf, Manuel Mota, Carlos Bechegas, Pedro Rebelo, Francisca Schroder, Bertrand Gauget, Fried Dahn, Josˇ Oliveira, Em’dio Buchinho, Vitor Joaquim, among others.
