First put out as a limited edition vinyl-only release, the ever caring people over at Southern Lord have now seen fit to collect Oren Ambarchi's 'Triste' and fling it into the digital age, accompanied of course by the requisite hotchpotch of remix work (here in the form of some rather wonderful Tom Recchion collaborations). Bearing most comparison (within his own back catalogue) to 'Grapes From The Estate', 'Triste' sees Ambarchi delving deep into electronically rendered drone, a sound that will come as a myelin blanket to those with a serious Sunn0)))/Earth predilection. Yet where their work can at times smother through its sheer intensity, Ambarchi is careful to open the window and let a bit of fresh air in. From the opening digital creaks and chimes of 'Triste Part 1' through to the spiked ardour of 'Triste Part 2', Ambarchi takes increasingly familiar elements (drone/subsonic tones etc.) then sculpts them into something both bold yet eminently accessible. Highly Recommended.
