Atmospheric and accomplished, Swiss group Opaks Two Sleepwalkers on a Tight Rope is an album that creeps up on you and inhabits your sonic world so comfortably that you have to press play again at the end because you only then realise what lovely detail youve allowed to wash over you. Tight grooves mesh with languid keyboards and basslines, recalling Matt Elliotts best work as Third Eye Foundation, and with a similarly dark texture. When acoustic guitars are added to the mix in Hypoxic, its as natural as day following night a not inept metaphor for a brighter track. Darker grooves are the norm though, with long saxophone notes or electric guitars blurring major/minor distinctions to spooky effect on some tracks, while muted scratching, radio static and distortion contribute to the overall feel. If you loved the distorted rock meets dub feel of Massive Attacks Mezzanine youll understand where this albums coming from. A beautiful work much deserving of a wide airing.
