Title Description:
Kapotte Muziek is besides a studio act, also a live act. Since 1993 Frans de Waard and Peter Duimelinks have been playing numerous concerts throughout the USA and Europe. Since 1995 Roel Meelkop (like Peter Duimelinks a former member of THU20) joined them. There is strong descrepancy between the studio and live work of Kapotte Muziek. The studio material is noisy and unsettling, the live approach is quiet and minimal. According to Achim Wollscheid (from Selektion), Kapotte Muziek live is like a folk choir. The conductor (= he who mixes the sound) tells the musicians what to play and the musicians add their part. The musical instruments of Kapotte Muziek are objects found in thrift stores and on the street and include metal, wood, plastic and electrical gear. Because of the use of this waste, the music of Kapotte Muziek is sometimes called 'Musica Povera'.
The concert held on the 3rd of November 1996 in the VPRO studio display the style of Kapotte Muziek: amplified objects are mingled with recordings of everyday sound and environment and create a ever shifting collage of sound which is tense and dense.
