New Shifts release featuring Frans de Waard (Kapotte Muziek, Captain Black, Goem) including two tracks: 8 line and Eight Lines. Minimal and listenable, pressed in a limited edition of 200 copies. For 8 Line, Shifts takes for the first time advantage of using digital recording in a 8 track studio. For side a, he works with multiple layers of the same source (8 tracks on track 1 & 2, 64 on 3 & 4, 4096 on 5 & 6 and 4096x4096 on 7 & 8). Eight Lines works in a totally different way of layering 8 different, slightly similar, but distinctively different sources of guitar hum and drones. As always, Shifts take the old school minimalism of Steve Reich to the extreme and beyond. This is probably his most refined result to date. Dark atmospheric, but never unsettling or disturbing. It juxtaposes the beautiful.
