EYEPHONE -REDUCTIVE (CD by Hypnotism)
 
Hypnotism is an off-shoot from Hyperium, Germany's number one goth label. But on 
their side affair they have released some intelligent dance music (as far as I 
know Hyperium stopped the label, with one more CD to come). Eyephone is Marc 
Behrens, whom I vaguely remember from the industrial underworld. His music 
consists of clever constructions which have more or less classic built-up in 
song structure, but never is real dance music. His 'extra' sounds, his breaks, 
are too strange for that. This makes perfect techno music for the armchair 
generation.

JUSTIN K. BROADRICK/ANDY HAWKINS -SUBSONIC 3 (CD by Sub Rosa) 

Subsonic is Sub Rosa's series of guitar explorations. Both these guitarists come 
from the guitar-noise school (with bands such as Splintered, Delphium, Godflesh) 
, who experiment with guitars and less with the traditional rock structure. 
Broadrick's four tracks are good examples of the possibilities of creating 
guitar works, which are both experimental and still recognizable as a guitar. 
The second piece for instance has short noise outbursts thrown in the mix and 
the fourth track is an infinite guitar plucking piece. Hawkins' has two pieces 
which explore guitar feedback, both elements ('guitar' and 'feedback') are 
recognizable. This is noisy, yet not over the top. You can hear all sorts of 
studio tricks, which makes this a standout in guitar noise. This is another CD 
that explores a traditional instruments in a non traditional way. Next time: the 
guitar as an ambient-instrument? (A field to be explored!)

PHOTOPHOBIA- CATHEPSIN (CD by Isomorphic) 

Photophobia is the project of one Marc McNulty, who, as far as I know released a 
couple of cassettes and soon will have a collaboration out with Brian Lustmord 
(who is more active in this current USA period then ever before in the UK) .On 
the cover of my copy (presumably a promo copy) there are some words of Mr. 
Lustmord, that the "pulsating instruments and works of Marc McNulty are full of 
substance and are standouts worth investigating". One starts to wonder about 
their relationship. ..I was expecting some copy cat of Lustmord work, and to my 
surprise it is. The long tracks (4 in total) are dark atmospheric tones, drowned 
in tons of reverb. It's hard to recognize any 'pulsating instruments' here, or 
even give any clue about the nature of the instruments Now I am maybe sounding a 
bit negative, but actually I enjoyed listening to this CD. It creates a 
wonderful atmospheric spaces in your living room. 


MAGAZINES 

Two interesting magazines, both carrying a cassette only release (looking a both 
editions of at least 500, one wonders why no CD?).

Audio Drudge No.6 features interviews with Namanax, Smell & Quim and Daniel 
Menche and all three are featured on the cassette. Furthermore there are tons of 
reviews, which have an honesty to them (a rare thing. ..) 
Address: Fever Pitch No.1 has many short interviews with bands such as Aube, 
God, and many others. The reviews are much shorter, and are pretty naive at 
times. On the tape 30 minutes of music by Aube (using only glow lamps as sound
