VITAL WEEKLY 21 WEEK 47 EDITORIAL NOTE: many thanks for last weeks answers to my questions. We are still reading the suggestions and comments. However we can't answer them all but some of you will get something from us {sooner or later). Thanks again. - Frans BUDHA BUILDING -SOUNDS FROM THE ABNORMAL HEART (CD by Double Space) Budha Building is a one man project from Tilburg, The Netherlands, and his first CD is also the fist CD from Double Space, a side label for the more 'industria guitar' label Double Noise. Advertised as 'ethnic ambient techno' it will certainly drive your mind on what to expect. Flowing synths, a 303 rhythm, ethnic percussion and chants and added sounds of the dolphins. Not much new on the ambient horizon, but it is well crafted and it gives an hour or so of easy listening music. A nice release. // Address: Mechtildistr. 2-21- 5021 CN Tilburg -The Netherlands COLLABORATION (CD by Perverse Series) Now here is my kind of project: an extensive collaboration by mail by some fine workers in the field of what I used to call 'noise concrete', as opposed to musique concrete. Noise concrete draws, just like musique concrete, on daily sounds, but it is put together in a rougher, less academic way. The extensive collaboration here is by Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock (group from the Schimpfluch label), Factor X, TAC (both producing many conceptual cassettes) and E, who is unknown for me. The whole collaboration is just under 58 minutes and indexed as 1 track on the CD. This makes it difficult to dechiper who did what on this work. The booklet, consisting of handwritten and typed notes, is not of great help either. Of course one can wonder if this is really necessary to know. The short, fragmented blocks of concrete sound are like many of the previous Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock works, so I gather he had a great part in producing the final master. As a whole this CD is a great thing to hear, to as an innovative work, but certainly is a landmark in conceptual approach to 'collaborations by mail' . // Address: Nicolas Genital Grinder -P.O.Box 75032- 17610 Kallithea -Athens - Greece WOOS- 2 (CD by Em:t) From the releases on Em:t so far, the first Woob CD still stands out as the best yet. So many were looking after the second Woob, which just came out. For this new work Woob consist of a larger ensemble then the first one. Added to Frankland's keyboards and programming are flutes, guitars, vocals, bass and chow. For me this enriches and changes the Woob sound. The music is again lushly played keyboards, occasionally dub-like rhythms are added and a laid back atmosphere is created. Overall the mood is quiet, maybe 70s like, with it is guitar solo being added. This is not the kind of ambient made with cubase setting presets on a digital synth. This is ambient from another planet. Again a very fine work. // Address: <100443.2514@compuserve.com> HYBRYDS -RHYTHM OF THE RAVE (CD by Daft) I've said some negative things about this band in the past, but don't get excited if you are seeking more negative words from me! This is the first CD by The Hybryds that I entirely like. As the title more or less implies, it's content lies in 'rave' , meaning, in The Hybryds case, ethno based percussion music set to a steady dance beat. Also included are ethnic chants. If you really need references, the influences of Exquisite Corpse or Muslimgauze are massive on this CD. Tablas are played, a bass synth rises, electronic drums. .. and references to 'magick' are kept to a minimum. I am excited! // Address: Discordia - Am Liffersmuhle 95 - 47877 Willich - Germany Vital Weekly is published by Frans de Waard and submitted for free to anybody with an e-mail address.
