She was the girlfriend of Scott Konzelman (Chop Shop), and this CD is to support them. 23 tracks by friends, and two by herself on a lengthy CD. Among them we find a whole bunch of people from the noise scene, that includes many US ones, but also some Europeans like Leif Elggren, Francisco Lopez, Peter Duimelinks and C.M. von Hauswolff. Some of these people do whatever they are good at, like AMK's turntable abuse, Blackhumour's tape-looped voices, or the fine sound processing of Small Cruel Party or Daniel Menche. Since Abigail was involved in the ancient technqiue of 8-track there are some of those, the most frigthening by Egnekn entitled 'Stairway to 8-track Heaven'. In all a sincere product, which you should buy, if only for the good cause. (FdW) Address: REAL MUSIC FOR ABSTRACT PEOPLE (Compilation CD by Silver) Ha, one of the most sympathetic dance music labels (at least for me), we have here a neat compilation, showcasing settled and future talent of Silver. The opening piece by Minion is right from the start a perfect example of the Silver sound: a minimal affair but with a highly danceable groove to it. There are some new names to be found here, like Syndic, Thrak, The Mellowtrons, but also Mark Broom, Lowground (which is Mark Broom and Starfish Pool), Rude 66, Unit Moebius and Starfish Pool. Tons of minimal acid techno and not really a bad track in sight... and pricewinner award to the Unit Moebius track (FdW) Address: THE LEGENDARY PINK DOTS - UNDER TRIPLE MOONS (CD by Roir) "The Best Of Our Earliest Work" shouts Edward Ka-spel on the bright yellow sticker. Never before available to the public - hey "hailed and culled from Premonition, Chemical Playschool, Kleine Krieg, Traumstadt" - all cassette only releases from the 80s. What does ROIR mean by "never before available to the public", since when is cassette only not available to the public? ROIR should have known better!! That aside, this is great old LPD stuff, funny, psychedelic, primitive electronics and hum-alongs (see my reviews on 'Prayer For Aradia'). I'm getting old & retarded probably, whining for the days lost. But this is great to see on CD. (FdW) Address: 611 Broadway, Suite 411 - New York, NY 10012 - USA ROEL MEELKOP - 2(KYOKU) (mCD on Staalplaat) Second release in what might be a series by clog-bearing Roel Meelkop. Two tracks. The first, 'hikari', accompanied an installation by a Japanese visual artist Shinichi Yanai and is another exploration of the distances between very high and very low frequencies (earbath time). Sounds reflected back through space from the edge of our auditory spectrum. Thin, high stretches rise and subside cutting through the silence like an extremely sharp (and therefore almost noiseless) machete. Deep dynamic bass pulse wells up like viscous liquid.. Whirring of electronic dragonflies as they shadowdive above this dark pool of oily bass. Web-footed barking toads of the short forest yap and click. Digital cicadas saw and slice as stars are sprinkled like castor sugar across the dark crust of the sky. Second track: 'garasu', not a soundtrack to anything...Thump. Bang. Shudder. Who comes in through the squeaky gate with a cattle prod? High tension wires unravel to single filaments of fine, static silk. Much, much more than an audible Bernie Gunter.
