February 25th, 2009 - 2 NEW MUSLIMGAUZE CDS OUT NOW!!!
Artist: Muslimgauze Title: Sycophant of Purdah Label: Staalplaat Cat#: 17491 Code#: archive nine (unreleased material) Format: Cd digipak Retail Price in Eur: 13,80 "Part of Staalplaat's ongoing Muslimgauze archive series, Sycophant of Purdah was submitted in 1994 then “replaced” by another master Bryn Jones felt more fit for release. Sycophant then languished in the vaults until present, nearly a decade after Jones' passing. It is no secret that Jones was a prolific artist and that numerous labels combined could not keep up with his output and will take several more years more for them to do so. Sycophant opens with a radio broadcast on the on-going Palestinian crisis set to breakbeats and marmalade-thick bass lines; the forward to another sonic treatise on struggles of the Muslim world. Tracks that follow are more consistent with Industrial stylings of the Muslimgauze oeuvre including Zealot, Blue Mosque, Silknoose and Izlamaphobia. Industrial, in the context of Muslimgauze, is often characterized by tightly woven percussion loops with scant variance while melodies hover. Additionally, tracks like “Radif, Avaz And Dastgah” and “Mossad Evil” are another facet of Industrial, Industrial in the classic sense of the word meaning, 'mechanical', 'machine like', with little in the way of melodic overtones. The commonality is rigorous, dogmatic structure that are nonetheless hypnotic and engaging. Because the above albums vary, despite being of the same sub-genre, Sycophant could be considered a 'missing link' that ties them together—with ethno-breaks added for variance. None of the track listings, handwritten by Jones, are repeated on any other release hence Sycophant of Purdah is a 'must have' for fans and collectors." Text by Ibrahim Khider, author of “Muslimgauze: Chasing the Shadow of Bryn Jones" Track List: 1. Jerico Loop-Bin Duplicator. 2. Enzyme Bangalore. 3. Sycophant Of Purdah. 4. Mehmet Quarter. 5. Radif, Avaz and Dastgah. 6. 7. For Muntaz. 8. Dupatta. 9. Jerico Loop-Bin Duplicator. 10. 11. Cairo Mercedes. 12. Enzyme Bangalore. 13. Mossad Evil. 14. Artist: Muslimgauze Title: Sulaymaniyah Label: Staalplaat Cat#: 17492 Code#: archive seven (unreleased material) Format: Cd digipak Retail Price in Eur: 13,80 "Sulaymaniyah is part of Staalplaat's ongoing Muslimgauze archive series, masters originally submitted in 1997, then “replaced” by what became Vampire of Tehran released early in 1998. It was not uncommon for the prolific Bryn Jones to replace masters with what he believed to be a more fit release. Short of two tracks, “Fez Tishan” and “Hamas Pulse of Revenge”, this is Vampire of Tehran with nine additional, unreleased tracks. Because Sulaymaniyah was “replaced”, it was stored in Staalplaat's vault's until a decade after Jones' passing and it will take several more years before they have completely caught up with additional “replaced” and unreleased masters. Sulaymaniyah is stylistically varied and has ethno-electro, ethno-breakbeat along with several dub cuts. Ethno-electro/breaks are analogous to urban dance/hip hop with catchy, distortion ridden breaks and heavily edited ethnic music, cut-up and reassembled into Frankenstein hybrids—sometimes further complicated with dub elements. Wanton mixtures of styles are one of many defining qualities of Muslimgauze music. Like “replaced” masters, versions of tracks such as “Arabs Improved Zpain” and “Arabs Return Zpain” demonstrate Jones' near obsessive search for the right sound. For those who appreciate the latter, rhythmic ethno-breaks and dub phase of Muslimgauze circa Tandoori Dog, or completists, Sulaymaniyah is a “must have”. Text by Ibrahim Khider, author of “Muslimgauze: Chasing the Shadow of Bryn Jones" Track List: 1. Full Metal Yashmak. 2. Disinfekt. 3. Nadir. 4. Satsuma Tablet. 5. Arabs Improved Zpain. 6. Fez Tishan. 7. Arabs Return Zpain. 8. Black Izlamic Garb. 9. North Africa Is Not So Far Away. 10. The Fly That Constantly Bites. 11. Terracotta Bowl. 12. Zealot Box. 13. Strap Sticks of Dynamite Around Her Body. 14. Enchanté, Monsieur. 15. Clamour. 16. Come Inside Lahore. 17. Full Metal Yeshmak.
December 18th, 2008 - FM3 BUDDHA MACHINE 2.0 NOW AVAILABLE!
Artist: FM3 Titel: Buddha Machine 2.0 Label: FM3 (Honk-Kong) Cat# / Purchase (available in 3 different colours): 17600 (Brown), 17601 (Burgundy), 17602 (Grey) Format: Soundbox Retail Price in Eur: 20 The Beijing-based duo FM3 is back with an all-new version of their wildly successful 2005 release, the Buddha Machine. Introducing Buddha Machine 2.0: 9 new loops. 3 new colors. Pitch bend. Blurring the line between music box and musical instrument, the Buddha Machine 2.0 is an interactive album that lets users customize the listening experience. Drop the pitch and the music ebbs in a low ambient drone. Boost the speed and suddenly its alive with melody. Add a few more machines, set them at different speeds and you have an evolving audio perfume. Plug it into a mixer, add some beats or vocals or guitar... FM3 won't mind. In fact, they encourage people to use the Buddha Machine as inspiration. Since its release in 2005, the original Buddha Machine has sold more than 50,000 units worldwide and has won praise from artists as diverse as Daft Punk, Gorillaz, Low, Monolake, Sunn O))), Blixa Bargeld and Mike Patton. Legendary producer Brian Eno was the first customer for the original Buddha Machine and nearly 3 years later told FM3 he still "cherishes" his purchase! Similar in shape and design to the original Buddha Machine, but boasting more robust construction and improved sound quality, the 2.0 comes in three colors: burgundy, grey and brown. For those who haven't experienced the pleasure of the original, the Buddha Machine is essentially a small plastic box that plays ambient loops. The loops repeat endlessly until the "track" is switched or the two AA batteries (not included) run out. The machine has its own built-in speaker and there is also a headphone jack for a more personal experience. But the charm of the device isn't nearly as specific: the Buddha Machine has a calming presence in today's fast-paced world. Its charm mixes with FM3's innovative music to provide the owner with an experience that is hard to define. Essentially, it's a box with a life, a tool for living, and to many, it's a friend. Founded in 1999 by Christiaan Virant and Zhang Jian, FM3 are considered pioneers of electronic music in China. Inspired by Buddhist prayer boxes found at temples around Asia, the duo released the original Buddha Machine in April 2005, winning acclaim in publications including BoingBoing.net, The New York Times and Arthur magazine.

May 9th, 2007 - new ANDREY KIRITCHENKO - MORT AUX VACHES (CD by Staalplaat)
Things have been quite for Staalplaat and their Mort Aux Vaches series. It seems as Staalplaat moved to another building in Berlin and things are up and running again. Celebrated with a new release in the Mort Aux Vaches series, an ongoing series of CDs recorded at VPRO radio in Amsterdam, and by now with some fifty or more releases - a small encyclopedia of modern music. And oh: an encyclopedia of CD design. This new one comes with a sort of bathroom curtain plastic cover, that is partly transparent, but also makes a hallucignetic thing. The music is by Andrey Kiritchenko, our man on the laptop (and more!) from the Ukraine. Around when this was recorded I also saw him play a concert and besides a laptop, I believe he used an autoharp and a guitar. The laptop contains the 'usual' crackles, hiss, and processed field recordings, but Kiritchenko plays some rather nice warm ambient glitch music. Half way somewhere Fennesz and microsound, not yet really pop like, and cut in to one long piece, Kiritchenko plays rather moody, atmospheric music. Fortunately not too abstract with his ploinks on the guitars, or his drones from the autoharp. I remember back when attending the concert that Kiritchenko's music is quite nice, but perhaps better enjoyable at home then in a concert space with people standing around and talking (like the one I saw). Now that it is on CD, I can only applaud the fact: yes, it works much better. Another great addition to the series. (FdW)/vital

July 17th, 2006 - Beirut calling " Israel attacks Lebanon"
we work with some artists from Lebanon and get disturbing messages from them: this is one from Cynthia Zaven. Dear everyone, I'm not a politician nor a journalist, this is unfortunately all I can do for the moment. what's going on is incredible here. And what you see on the media is only 10%. This is not about whether you're with or against Hezbollah, this is against the sudden siege and inhuman attacks over the entire country and its population. Thanks for reading and signing this petition, please forward, Love, C " Israel attacks Lebanon" hosted on the web by our free online petition service, at: www.PetitionOnline.com/50600/ It's so strange how in the space of 24 hours your life changes. Entire neighborhoods are being erradicated, stadiums and schools are flooded with refugees, airplanes and ships are bombing every single part of the country's infrastructure, foreigners are being evacuated. Soon we'll be running out of gasoline and electricity. I was lucky to flee away from Beirut, to the mountains where my sister lives. Now I feel helpless and useless and extremely angry. The country is an open war zone and the world is just watching! Some friends have just set up this blog, you can check it if you feel like it... www.siegeoflebanon.blogspot.com/

June 6th, 2006 - Live at Staalplaat Store, Wednesday June 7th, 20:30
| Sten Ove Toft (Norway) - laptop+electronics Jon Eriksen (Sweden) - laptop + electronics STEN OVE TOFT | www.roggbif.com/toft As one half of the critically accalimed Norwegian duo Ryfylke, Toft has been on two European tours, played a total of over 100 concerts, and has a discography soon passing 50 titles on labels like Utech, Vendlus, Roggbif, [OHM], Paranoise, and many more. As a solo performer, Toft has a wide musical range, bouncing from Deathprod's drones to Merzbow's extreme madness with an inferno of loops and live-treatments of found objects and the occational vocal - all supported by heavy, dark drones that will really do wonders with the extra kilos you've regretfully grown so attatched to. Toft has collaborated with artists like Junko (Hijokaidan), Lasse Marhaug (Jazzkammer), Maja Ratkje (Fe-Mail) and Sindre Bjerga. He has done recording sessions with, among others, Campbell Kneale (Birchville Cat Motel), Carlos Giffoni, and Massimo. JON ERIKSEN | www.hypersonance.com/joneriksen This Swedish-Norwegian serves up something truly exceptional - intelligently composed harsh noise. Is it possible? Apparently. Are the compositions noticeable? Hardly. But it sounds as good as it gets. Imagine Merzbow, Masonna, Russell Haswell - all of them, spot-on focused and full throttle: the climax of harsh laptop mayhem noise. After seeing Eriksen play live, it is hard to imagine that the guy is vegan, and uses earplugs. But he is and he does. Truly a well hidden secret. |

emiter A solo project of Marcin Dymiter who played earlier in bands: ewa braun, MAPA and presently he plays in a band MORDY. He cooperated with musicians from various areas like jazz, electronics and avant-garde: Le Quan Ninh, John Butcher, Paul Wirkus, Axel Dorner, Rosa Arruti, Mikolaj Trzaska, Tomasz Gwicinski,a poet Marcin Swietlicki, Raphael Roginski, Marek Chloniewski, Tomasz Chloniewski, Matthias Mueller, Peter Eisod and Chlupot Mozgu formation. He has recorded 13 albums, cooperated and composed for off theatres moreover he is also a producer of music. He has played in many different European countries and in the USA. As emiter he edited 5 CDs: '#1' (2000), '# 2: static' (2002),'#3' (2003), emiter Krzysztof Topolski '16.03.2003' (2003), emiter/Tomasz Gadomski '#4' (2004). All the albums received very good reviews in music magazines; their unusual musical climate and eclecticism was emphasized. He leads also his own printing house sojuz emiter rec. He is experimenting with sounds, transforming of everyday tunes and he seeks inspiration in the world around us. He believes that music is everywhere and its composing is an unfinished process. arszyn (Krzysztof Topolski) - drummer, sound artist. He cooperated with many musicians, music bands and musical projects: RogulusXSzewelas Project, Kobiety, Emiter, M.bunio.S., Mikolaj Trzaska, Tomasz Szwelnik, Muk, Beatrix von Shreader, Hoec, Dj Wojak. He is a cofounder of band Ludzie (Folks) and Pracowni Ludzie Gdansk (The Folks Workshop). Arszyn is Krzystof Topolski's solo project, till today there appeared following CDs: 'Z werszkow pierwszy' (the first of werszkow) (nefryt '02), 'Unitas Multiplex' (tns rec.rxs/plg rec. ' 04). His main interests are sound and everything which is connected with it. emiszyn A project of still seeking musicians Marcin Dymiter (guitar, electronics) and Krzysztof Topolski (drums, electronics). The idea of playing together appeared in June 2002, after a session for CD '# 2: static" emiter project we discovered a voice production between us and we decided that we should play. We had earlier played together a concert in LUDZIE (FOLKS) on ART ACTS' 02 festival in Saint Johan in Austria. The whole year since June 2002 till June 2003 we were creating a project called emiter / K. Topolski. To sum up our work we brought out an album with a title '16.03.2003' edited (November 2003) in a British label a-version which is dealing with avant-garde and electronics. The present project emiter . arszyn . emiszyn is the next part of our cooperation. Duet is the best ever dreamt team for a musical dialogue, free from any formal borders of musical groups. Everything here is made in a completely different way, using electronics. Improvisation, intuition and experiments are tracing the direction of our united displays. WOLFRAM A former member of trio Neurobot, since 2000 a solo artist who also performs in spontaneously created lineups (eg. with Thomas Ankersmit, Alexei Borisov, Xavier Charles, Phil Durrant, Facial Index, David Galbraith, Janko Hanushevsky, Martin Koller, Robert Piotrowicz, Ignaz Schick, Andrew Sharpley, Torben Tilly, Viön & Mem). He has played in Poland, Germany, Austria and France. He made 3 records with Neurobot: Normal Subjects (1998), Tarcza 9800 (2000), l.i.v.e.v.i.l. (2001) and 6 solo records Projekt Drei (2000), Mind Locations (2001), Atol Drone (2002), Superrecombination_sys (2002), Habitat (2004), Thinking Dust (2005). Wolfram's solo projects incline towards ambient music mixing blurred sounds in the foreground with the noise elements receded into the background. His slowly developing, mostly minimalist compositions are based on ambient and noise. The result of this fusion is music which seems calm, but is a full of tension underneath. Wolfram's latest album "Thinking Dust" has received entousiastic reviews from music critics in Poland. KOMORA A (Chamber A) Joint project of Stworywodne.Jaszczury and Neurobot members. Improvised, contemplative music basing mainly on dark soundspots attached with intriguing voices and radical frequencies.

January 25th, 2006 - OUT NOW ! Colleen Mort Aux Vaches
Packing comes in special limited edition cover Colleen is a French musician working within a minima list and melodic aesthetic using acoustic instruments . She released two albums on The Leaf Label , Everyone alive wants answers in 2003 and The golden morning breaks in 2005, and has been playing live all over Europe and in the US for the past three years. Colleen has developed a specific repertoire for her live shows as she cannot reproduce most of the songs from her albums live and does not want to use any prerecorded element in her live shows. This Mort aux Vaches release, recorded in September 2004 in the VPRO studios, provides insights into some of the songs that she played live between 2002 and 2004 ; songs that paved the way towards her second album in which she completely abandoned the use of external sources such as samples and started recording everything herself. The variety of instruments (classical guitar, zither, ukulele, cello, thumb pianos, recorder, melodica and music boxes) reflects her deep love of acoustic instruments, and the occasional use of looping and delay pedals brings the music closer to the layered feel of her albums. This recording captures songs that are no longer in her current repertoire, as Colleen constantly tries to create new pieces for live shows. As all other in this series this release is a limited edition packed in the Mort aux vaches tradition with a totally out of the ordinary cover artwor
January 23rd, 2006 - finaly Staalplaat third edition of Zoviet France Just An Illusion!
third edition comes in jewel case. it was originally packaged in an elegant wooden box Just An Illusion represents a continuation of the "electronic" style of the late 80s / early 90s. Together, Acend A Fall and Caught In The Square comprise a hypnotic masterpiece. A combination of industrial grinding, modified guitar and electronics. Other tracks apply synthesizers and tape loops with far more sophistication and impact than on the earlier albums. With longer mood pieces and shorter works that highlight the Middle Eastern and Asian influences which have often lingered in the background.
January 16th, 2006 - the Yokomono 3 loop LP is out!
This is the third Staalplaat Soundsystem LP made for Yokomono in white Vinyl! One side of this record the Staalplaat Soundsystem has made 55 loopSSS decided to compile a thematic Yokomono vinyl release. The theme: Helsinki and its environmental sounds. The other half of Pan Sonic, Mika Vainio, a resident of Berlin like SSS, was commissioned to produce a seven-minute composition. Petri Kuljuntausta from Helsinki was, in turn, asked to provide a composition of an equal length responding to Vainio’s piece. The sound material to be used for the compositions, field recordings from the turn of the 1960s and 1970s made at the Hietalahti shipyard in Helsinki, was discovered in the special effects archive of YLE Finnish Broadcasting Company. These sounds have a personal dimension for both composers: Vainio spent a part of his childhood living near the dockyard, while Kuljuntausta has used sounds recorded from inside ships’ hulls as material for his earlier works. Yokomono 03 will be pressed using an exotic method. The grooves holding the two compositions by Vainio and Kuljuntausta will be paralel cut. The other side of the record features the traditional loops of 1.8 seconds, commissioned from Blixa Bargeld, Merzbow, Main, Alexei Borisov, Donna Summer, G.X. Jupitter-Larsen, Andrey Kiritchenko, Zbigniew Karkowski, staalplaat soundsystem, Un Caddie Renversé Dans l'Herbe and Ditterich von Euler-Donnersperg, with five loops from each featured artist and their own sound environments
January 7th, 2006 - 25 januar live at the staalplaat store
| Julijuni combines abstract electronic sound processing with semi accoustic tone creations. Recognizable patterns embedded in free sometimes challenging, sometimes hypnotic and repetitive structures. Complex music yet playful and experimental. Julijuni does not necessarily believes in chance within improvised music but admits to get caught inside a productiv musical misunderstanding every once in awhile. Conscious unawareness and blind trust could be two reasons why these three individuals almost accidently met to form this band to play this kind of music. Without words fighting back and forth to finally meet in the embrace of matching sounds creating a song only to tear it up again - noise and reconciliation - attracting and revolting contrasts in permanent process. Intensive texturizing based on a synthesis of analogue and digital improvisation, prerecorded facts, collapsing loops, thick and transparent layers, deconstructed repetition is what could happen if JuliJuni would be more predictable - you will be surprised. After releasing a well acclaimed 12" split record with improvisors Perlonex followed by concerts throughout Germany JuliJuni took a two year break to concentrate on solo projects and other bands. 2005 JuliJuni comes back. 2006 new recordings are inevitably. | December 3rd, 2005 - new FM3 Mort Aux Vaches |
Packing comes in two kinds of hand screen printed paper from Switzerland and made a sort of first.hardcover Mort aux vaches, printed in the Ukraine FM3 went into the VPRO studio for their Mort Aux Vaches session in August 2004, right in the middle of a six-month tour of Europe and North America. The session captured the last-ever performance of FM3 material developed for a project at the Louvre museum, and was seen by the band as a definitive version of that particular live set. Following this MaV session, the material was retired and never performed again. Founded by Christiaan Virant in Beijing in 1999, FM3 pioneered avant-garde electronic music in China. Virant works closely with computer musician Zhang Jian, distilling the FM3 sound from traditional Chinese instruments and home-made electronic loop boxes called "buddha machines."

September 1st, 2005 - new Goodiepal Mort Aux Vaches
Packaging: plastic foam in 4 different colors and printed two different versions The music of Goodiepal et cetera is often described as emanating from playgrounds, fairgrounds and other surreal grounds. Yet that image is wrong. The significance of his music is found in other constellations: It is the sound of death. Though death in the form of play. 1. Moving inside these sounds you are confronted by a form of life in which games and funerals are the same thing. They are called by the same name, enacted in the same attitude, accompanied by the same songs. Meeting such creatures one wants to point out to them that their word for games and funerals is homonymous. But they reply: It is rather your two words that are synonymous. Then you say: Can‚t you see the difference? In response to which they stare at you, the stranger, as though you were the confused one. Does that mean that joy and sorrow feel the same in their form of life? It does in their music ˆ this music.
August 20th, 2005 - new Mort Aux Vaches from Mitchell Akiyama
Packaging comes in embossed copper (no printing) Akiyama's contribution to the Mort Aux Vaches series is an unedited improvisation recorded for VPRO radio in April, 2004. Consisting of guitar washes and digital interruptions, the set was recorded without any use of samples or prepared material. In keeping with Akiyama's ethic of spontaneous composition this recording is a document of a moment. Akiyama's music is a study in fiction and texture. He records compositions and improvisations for piano, strings, and other instruments, and restructures them in his studio in a post-facto montage. Playing on the distortions in causality that recording technology can effect, Akiyama creates music that lays claim to a moment of creation that never happened. Imperfections - fingers scraping strings, breaths and other signs of humanity - are underscored resulting in a digital simulacrum of performance. Located somewhere in the interstices of classical, electronic composition and post-rock, his works vacillate between delicate melodies and confrontational bursts of noise.
